Devin The Dude has worked with seemingly everyone. And on his 2002 album Just Tryin' Ta Live, Devin collaborated with a particularly wide variety of artists. Everyone from Dr. Dre to Nas is featured on the project, but the Houston rap legend shared that one star in particular stands out in his memory.

"Working with Raphael Saadiq was a blast, man," Devin recalls to ROCK THE BELLS. "He reached out for me for the Baby Boy soundtrack, a song called 'Just A Man.' When he reached out to me, I was like 'Wow!' [I was] so shocked, surprised and enthused to be working with him. But I was like—what kinda song we gone do?"

"I was like 'I don't know if he smoke, he don't really talk about what I be talkin' about,'" Devin continues, admitting that he did have some questions about the prospect of them putting down something together. "But I was just excited to be working with him."

The soul icon scored a number of hits in the 1990s with the trio Tony! Toni! Toné!; and has a storied solo career as a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, as well as one of music's most celebrated producers. When it came time to hit the studio, Devin was greeted with the smell of the finest greenery.

"When I went inside his studio, him and [production duo] Jake and The Phatman were working on some stuff," he remembers. "And I was hit with a cloud of that good-good Oakland, too!"
