On a recent episode of Revolt's Drink Champs, former Def Jam executive Lyor Cohen shared the story of a run-in with Death Row Records head Suge Knight after Def Jam signed Warren G.

"There was a moment in L.A. at the Palace on Vine Street where Chris Lighty [of Violator Management] comes up to me and pulls out a gun and said come this way," he explained. "He said look over there, a it was Suge and his crew coming after me. This was after I signed Warren G and he was very upset. Chris had me go through the kitchen at the Four Seasons and they got me to my room. It was a thing."

Def Jam Rcords signed Warren G in 1994 and released Regulate... G Funk Era which contained the smash hit "Regulate" as well as "This DJ." Warren G, the half brother of Dr. Dre, was affiliated with Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound, all of whom were signed to Death Row Records at the time.

There was nothing wrong with me signing Warren G, he had every opportunity to and he neglected it

Cohen revealed that he had several face to face meetings with Suge after the run-in, even visiting him in prison. "There's no reconcile or apologies for what I did," he said. "I used to say to my artists that the answer I'm giving you now is the same one I'll give you if you fling me out the window and I hit the concrete. The only difference is you're going to jail. Threatening me and scaring me [does nothing], you'll get the same answer. Once they see that you're not gonna change its a different relationship. There was nothing wrong with me signing Warren G, he had every opportunity to and he neglected it. I didn't do anything disrespectful or wrong, I just signed an artist and gave him an opportunity."
