Cam'ron and Mase "Hypothetically" Purchase Dame Dash's Share of Roc-A-Fella Records

Cam'ron and Mase "Hypothetically" Purchase Dame Dash's Share of Roc-A-Fella Records

With heavy laughter and constant "hypothetical" disclaimers, Cam'ron and Mase announced on their It Is What it Is Podcast that they've purchased Dame Dash's stake in Rock-A Fella Records.

It was reported last week that Dame has been ordered to sell his remaining shares in the label that he co-founded with Jay-Z and Kareem "Biggs" Burke three decades ago. According to documents obtained by XXL, "U.S. Magistrate Robert W. Lehrburger announced the decision earlier this month, saying the sale was intended to clear a $823,000 debt Dash had incurred nearly two years ago."

The ruling stemmed from a 2022 copyright infringement case where film producer Josh Webber accused Dash of stealing and renaming his film, Dear Frank. Webber was awarded 800,000, but when Dash failed to pay, he asked the court to pursue Dame's Roc-A Fella shares, which Jay-Z and Burke contested with no success.

Hypothetically, I'd go to the [Roc-A-Fella] brunch next time, and sell it back to the original owner. Something good for Hip-Hop

When asked by co-host Treasure Wilson if the rumors were true that they were acquiring Dame's shares, Mase replied: "That would be a grandmaster chess move, lets just say hypothetically." Cam'ron added: "I'm just doing business bro, I'm not trying to play games or chess."

A disclaimer was posted on screen stating that the duo were speaking hypothetically, and they repeated that fact throughout the conversation. "Hypothetically it might have happened already, hypothetically," Cam said. "If we did, who would you sell it to?" Mase questioned. Cam suggested that he would "Hold onto it, like 'The Wu-Tang album [Once Upon A Time In Shaolin].'"

Dash's share consists of the rights to Jay-Z's debut album Reasonable Doubt, as all further Roc-A-Fella recordings were not owned by the trio. "You have to realize that what we have in our possession, hypothetically is a classic," Cam explained. Mase added "I was thinking this morning that if I had it, I'd probably sell it to Drake. He would want it, hypothetically."
