In a recent red carpet interview with HipHopDx at the 2023 BET Awards, Big Daddy Kane revealed that Eminem surprised him with an intense interview for his upcoming Netflix documentary, Words I Manifest.

"He mentioned some things that I never paid attention to or even thought about," the "Smooth Operator" MC said. "I had to sit and say, are you sure that I'm the first person to do that? Let me double check."

When pressed for specifics, Kane replied that we will have to wait to see the documentary. Kane says the first time he heard Eminem was with 1999's "My Name Is."

"I guess somebody later played something that he was on before and I was like he's nice and he is funny... then I was like he's a problem."

Kane also says that he learned that J. Cole is a student of the game. "He's a student who studies," he explained. "He explained how he found out about me, then went back to look and see who I was. Just to hear him talk about his writing process was real dope, because I think that he's an amazing lyricist."

In a recent interview with AllHipHop, Kane says that his upcoming documentary is in the editing stages.

“We’re in the editing stages right now,” he explained. “And hopefully, we’ll be finished within the next two months. That’s what I’m praying for, you know, because I really feel that it’s important to get this out as Hip-Hop is celebrating 50 years.”

The film was originally announced in 2021, and features interviews with Common, J. Cole, and MC Lyte. Big Daddy Kane is performing live at the Rock The Bells Festival on August 5 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY.
