In preparation for his upcoming fifth commercial studio album, Digital Roses Don't Die, Mississippi emcee, Big K.R.I.T. took to Reddit for an "Ask me Anything" session, where the rapper responded to some of his fan's most burning questions, including what his favorite album of his is, what inspired him to change his sound, and what his favorite soul food meal is.

"I’m Big K.R.I.T. and I was born on the southside of the moon and raised where roses fight to bloom. AMA," the emcee shared to Reddit. "I’m your country cuzzin, artist and producer… Oh yeah I sing a little bit too. I have 12 albums, and I can go into a studio by myself and come out with a full album. My latest project is “Digital Roses Don’t Die” where I explore the elements of love and how it lives 4eva! 4eva? 4eva eva! 4eva eva!"

Here are some of the new things we learned from Big K.R.I.T.'s Reddit Ask Me Anything.

Big K.R.I.T.'s Most Slept on Project

"Damn, that's difficult to say. I Think Live From The Underground might have been slept on, to be honest."

Big K.R.I.T. 's debut studio album, Live From the Underground, came shortly after his critically acclaimed 2012 mixtape, 4eva n a Day. The dirty south hip-hop album was met with great fan and critical acclaim, earning the 11th spot on Spin’s best albums of 2012 list. While the debut album was a hit with hardcore Big K.R.I.T. fans, the record did not have major commercial success, understandably being Big K.R.I.T.’s most slept on album.

Thoughts on Becoming an “Old Ass Rapper”

"t's definitely Multi Till the Sun Die with producing music. I think id be cool with retiring the microphone before I turn 60 lol.

In 2017, for an interview with Complex, Andre 3000 compared being an emcee to the life of a boxer, saying, "Rapping is like being a boxer," he said. "No matter how great you are or were at a certain time, the older you get, the slower you get—I don’t care who you are"

When a fan asked K.R.I.T.'s opinion on 3 Stacks sentiments on becoming an "old ass rapper," the Mississippi emcee said he will likely be rapping until he's in his 60s.

Iconic Rhythm Roulette Episode Was his First Time Producing on Camera

"That was literally my first time producing on camera. Im so use to being in the studio by myself when I'm creating. I would definitely be down to be apart of something like that again. Perhaps the next time I'll make a complete song."

In 2016, Big K.R.I.T. produced an entire record for Mass Appeal's impromptu production series "Rythem Roulette." Usually, producers are given three random records to sample into a complete beat. K.R.I.T. decided he would take the extra step and record a verse and hook, being the first artist to make an entire song on the show.

Favorite Soul Food Item

"Mac & Cheese!!!!"

Most likely inspired by the emcee's Raphael Saadiq assisted track, "Soul Food," a fan took to the Reddit thread to ask K.R.I.T. what his favorite soul food dish was. Without question or hesitation, the Mississippi emcee answered "Mac & Cheese!!!!" enthusiastically.

#2

There Will Be Instrumental Releases of His Album

"I've released instrumentals in the past. After doing the interludes on "D.R.D.D." I decided to start back. I'll probably just start with this latest albums interludes for meditation purposes"

Big K.R.I.T. is an exceptional emcee and producer. Often crafting his own beats for many of his critically acclaimed projects, the 4 Eva n a Day artist has cemented himself as an elite beatmaker. Fans are curious about when he will release the instrumentals to his beloved songs.

First Time Working with Bun B

"I was super honored and mind blown lol! It was hard to believe that the OG was down to jump on the 'Country Shit' remix."

Big K.R.I.T. has been a representative of southern culture and dirty south hip-hop since the genesis of his career. Of course, it was a big look once he hooked up with UGK and Houston legend, Bun B on his 2011 "Country Shit Remix." K.R.I.T. has consistently taken from UGK and other classic southern hip-hop artists in his music, cementing himself as one of the front runners of contemporary southern rap.
