Gotti has been a prominent advocate for prison reform for years and previously teamed with Jay-Z and Team Roc to shed light on prison reform. In April, the Justice Department found unsafe conditions at a Mississippi prison following the advocacy efforts of Jay and Gotti, who, along with Team Roc, obtained legal representation for more than 225 incarcerated men at the Mississippi State Penitentiary and "filed multiple lawsuits against the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) to address the lack of COVID-19 testing and barbaric living conditions inside the facility."
Focused on more than big names to draw attention to reform, the inaugural summit aims to "bring together leaders, experts, and advocates who are committed to working together in the spirit of social and racial justice" by addressing families impacted by police violence, laws and policies, and increasing voter registration via town halls, panel discussions, and networking opportunities.
The UJC Summit: Inaugural Social Justice Convention will take place at CENTER415 in NYC on July 23. Register for the event at unitedjusticecoalition.com.
