The day-long event will be hosted by Grandmaster Caz and Master Gee (founding member of the Sugar Hill Gang). In addition to sharing hosting duties, Caz will also sit down with the inductees as his guests for a special taping of his radio show on Rock The Bells, That's The Joint, with MC Sha-Rock. The inductees will be introduced by Rock The Bells writer and Hip-Hop Historian for NHHM, Jay Quan.
"This induction has sentimental value for me due to the fact that Kangol Kid was supposed to be inducted last year, but he was hospitalized, and passed not long after the ceremony," Quan told Rock the Bells. "The losses of Ecstacy of Whodini and The Educated Rapper from U.T.F.O. definitely loom over this one, but we will celebrate them and their accomplishments that changed all of our lives and elevated the genre and culture."
Also featured will be a Hip-Hop Marketplace with vendors, live cake making, live painting, and breakdancing. Veteran DJs, MC Shan, DJ Rasta Root, and DJ Hurricane will also be on hand. "Hip-Hop is America's largest cultural export, and is now a multi-trillion dollar global industry that needs to be preserved and honored," Jeremy Beaver, Founder of The Hip-Hop Museum Pop-Up Experience said in a statement. “By creating and archiving the world's largest Hip-Hop Museum collection and hosting these historic induction ceremonies we hope to contribute to the preservation of Hip-Hop history and culture."
Capping the celebration, Kool G. Rap will perform live, with producer Domingo spinning tracks from his upcoming album, Last of a Dying Breed, set for release on the same day as the event.
