On Saturday night (February 26), Method Man won the NAACP Imagine Award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Davis MacLean in Power Book II: Ghost. His co-star, Mary J. Blige, also took home an award in the same category for her role as Monét Tejada.

While Method Man is often praised for his work on the show, there’s a sense he might not have known just how popular his role was until his big win. Shortly after he was presented with the award, the Wu-Tang Clan legend shared an Instagram post celebrating the award and declared his “price just went up.”

“2x [trophy emojis],” he wrote. “Repost from @naacpimageawards. Congratulations to Cliff #MethodMan Smith – Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series – Power Book II: Ghost. #NAACPImageAwards.”

The comments section was full of congratulatory remarks from his hip-hop counterparts and fans alike. From Lil Cease and DJ Scratch to Busta Rhymes and B-Real, his peers were elated by Method Man’s success. “SUPER PROUD OF YOU KING!!!!” Bus-A-Bus wrote in all caps,” while Raekwon told his fellow Wu-Tang legend, “You deserve it.”

Method Man is also proud of his “All I Need” collaborator Mary J. Blige for her NAACP win. In a November 2021 interview with Metro, he revealed he thinks 50 Cent’s STARZ series was created with the R&B singer in mind.

“Mary brought a big audience with her, they knew what they was doing,” he said. “Plus, Mary was a fan of this show, and I think this show was written exclusively for her, especially with the Monet character, which I think she is brilliant at. I love seeing Mary outside of her comfort zone as far as being on stage and singing and all that. She’s been getting her feet wet in this acting game, and there’s only room for improvement, and she has all my support.”

Congratulations to Method Man and Mary J. Blige on their major accomplishments.
