Ty Tim, born Samantha Lawrence of the pioneering UK Hip-Hop group The Wee Papa Girls has died at age 55. DJ Dave Pearce shared the news of her passing in a statement on behalf of her family. "Very sad to announce the passing of Samantha Lawrence, AKA Ty Tim, of pioneering UK Hip Hop duo Wee Pappa Girl Rappers," he said. "Sam was part of a defining and ground breaking era of trailblazing British female rappers who against the odds conquered the UK charts alongside the likes of Cookie Crew.

It was a really exciting time for me and always a pleasure to work with them on my Radio London Hip Hop Show back in the day, their positive energy was infectious," he continued. "Through her success Sam will have inspired others to follow their dreams, I'm glad I had the chance to remind her of that recently. Thoughts with her sister Sandra and daughter KeeKee. Rest In Peace."

The Wee Papa Girls formed in 1987, and the siblings released their first single, "Rock The Clock" on Jive Records before releasing their debut full-length album, The Beat, The Rhyme The Noise in 1988. The duo parted ways in 1990 after the release of their sophomore album, Be Aware. The group is known for infusing Dancehall Reggae and House Music into their music, and helping to influence female MC's in the UK and abroad.
