Power Play, Chung King and The Hit Factory are all iconic New York recording studios associated with Hip-Hop, but in a recent interview with Rock The Bells, Rev Run of Run-DMC revealed that DMC's basement was his favorite place to record.
"It wasn't quite a recording studio, but it's where I learned how to DJ," the "My Adidas" MC said. "DMC's basement had two turntables and a mixer and that's where I got my whole swagger to make records like "Mary, Mary," "It's Tricky," and "Peter Piper" — droppin' the bells from "Mardis Gras."
Run, who was a DJ as well, rose to fame in 1983 as part of the duo Run-DMC, but he started as Kurtis Blow's DJ, and was billed as "The Son of Kurtis Blow."
