Questlove to Release Children's Book: 'Rhythm of Time'

Musician, producer and director Questlove recently announced the release of his first children's book Rhythm of Time. Described as a middle-grade novel, the story follows best friends Kasia and Rahim, two nerdy Black teenagers who hail from Questlove's hometown of Philadelphia, as the pair navigate time travel, family, and friendship.

Quest revealed to People that the idea for the novel was born during the pandemic of 2020 while he was quarantined at a farm. "During 2020, I had a lot of time on my hands to tackle bucket list things I wouldn't have had time to otherwise," he said. "I had this burning desire, as a time travel obsessive myself, to knock this out."

He posted his inspiration further on an IG post. "Quarantining at a farm cleared my head and gave me space to do [Jimmy] Fallon and working on Summer of Soul kept me busy/focused/in the creative zone," he wrote. "But then online DJ'n kept me in a space of fun while the world was figuring out its predicament & future. Soon after DJ'n became a necessity, so to wind down I’d make fun “music discovery” games partly to figure out what I’m spinning for the world & to catalog for a future book that wound up becoming Music Is History, but soon after that I realized if there ever was a time to pivot & check off long lists of ideas I never had the time to do? 2020 was that period."

Rhythm of Time is co-authored by award-winning crime fiction author S.A. Cosby (Razorblade Tears, Blacktop Wasteland) and has a release date of April 18, 2023.
