With last week’s release of It’s Almost Dry, Pusha T has been a busy man. Push talked recently with Idea Generation’s Noah Callahan-Bever for AMP’S It’s Almost Dry Radio, where he revealed the fate of the album that he recorded with producer Madlib. Back in March 2020, Pusha T announced during a Discord AMA session that he was working with Madlib, which he described as a “bucket list thing.” Now, he offers an update—and he explained why he wanted to work with the legendary producer.

“I was definitely going to work with Madlib, I even got some beats and chops from him,” Pusha stated. “I just think he’s really dope at finding ill sounds and ill chops, and things of that nature.”

As far as the future for Pusha and Madlib, Pusha says it's still in the works. “We’re taking our time. I’m crafting and writing to some of them. The fact that we’re in contact and everything is good, I see that happening. I can’t put a date on it, but I’m definitely on it.”

Concerning the beats that he was given by Madlib, Push described them as feeling like a beat tape. “I felt like to step it up I had to be produced – to step it up from Daytona”, he said. “When you think of Daytona, it’s just beats and hard raps. I wasn’t produced," he recalls. Pusha also compared the production techniques of Kanye and Pharrell (both producers on Its Almost Dry.)

“The structure of Kanye West, you know, taking these things out or whatever the case may be. Honestly, it was just that. It’s Almost Dry is an exercise, definitely on the Pharrell side, in being produced.”

It's Almost Dry was released on April 22 and is Pusha T's first full length album since 2018's Daytona.
