Nipsey Hussle Murder Trial: Victim Reveals Rapper's Last Words

One of the two men who were injured when rapper Nipsey Hussle was gunned down in Los Angeles on March 31, 2019, testified in court on Monday (June 20) about the incident. Witness Shermi Villanueva testified that he heard the beloved L.A. rapper's last words.

"'He shot me. He shot me,'" the 47-year old witness told jurors were reportedly the words that Hussle uttered after being shot outside of his Marathon clothing store. According to Villanueva, he and his uncle Kerry Lathan had been talking to Nipsey seconds before Eric Holder Jr. allegedly opened fire.

"I heard it, and then I saw Nipsey fall," he said. "When I looked and seen Nipsy, I started to run."

Villanueva says that he felt something hit his belt buckle, and later noticed that he was bleeding, but declined medical assistance.

Deputy District Attorney John McKinney warned jurors in his opening statement last week that getting Villanueva to speak about the shooting was "going to be a challenge." McKinney said that Villanueva grew up in the South Central community where the shooting occurred, which is an area where the Rollin' 60's gang discourages community involvement with law enforcement. Villanueva testified that he didn't hear any words from Holder previous to him opening fire. Prosecutors claim that Holder fired at least 10 shots at the rapper, born Airmiess Asghedom, from a semi-automatic handgun, ending the 33 year-old's life.
