Legendary MC Shy D created a mashup featuring the Furious 5 which has social media reminiscing on the genius of the group.
Using the acapella of "We Rap More Mellow," a song that the Furious 5 recorded in 1979 under the name The Younger Generation, Shy D has breathed new life into a forgotten routine. The lyrics from "We Rap More Mellow" were also used in 1979's "Superappin," the first song actually credited to Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5. "Superappin" also contained pieces of the "Flash To The Beat" routine which the reunited group recently performed at the Grammy Hip-Hop 50th anniversary performance.
Shy D, a Bronx native who gained success in the mid 1980's with Miami Bass inspired music on Luke Skywalker Records, explained to Rock The Bells how his mashup came about.
"I used the stems on Serato DJ to make the acapella, then the beat is from 'Big Throw Down' but I redid it on my SP12," he said. "Then I put 'Good Times' by Chic in there also. It took me three hours to put it together."
