Missy Elliott shared the same clip. The longtime Salt-N-Pepa fan added her voice to the chorus of praises for the iconic group.
"These Women kicked down so many doors for female emcees on a Hiphop & Commercial level!" she tweeted. "Even if you weren’t around then I would say as a female emcee you still should know the history of all the ones B4 you because of them it made all our run is alot easier."
Incidentally, Lyte, Missy and Salt-N-Pepa all received major recognition in 2022. Lyte was honored alongside Hip-Hop founding father Grandmaster Flash at the Recording Industry Association of America's RIAA Honors: Pioneers of Hip-Hop awards ceremony; where Rapsody performed a rendition of Lyte's 1991 hit, "Poor Georgie" and legendary West Coast MC Yo-Yo introduced the rapper and declared her "a three-time RIAA certified gold award winner, who the public knew was special since her 1988 debut." Missy Elliott received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree and presidential medallion during the commencement address at Norfolk State University; and she was gifted personalized shoes designed by Van Monroe.
And Salt, Pepa and DJ Spinderella were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame this year. The celebratory event drew out Hip-Hop icons including MC Lyte, Kid 'n Play and Roxanne Shanté,
