The absolutely insane trailer for Cocaine Bear dropped yesterday, and featured dozens of head-scratching, eye-popping moments, which isn't surprising seeing as how it's a movie about a huge bear who ingested millions of dollars worth of cocaine and then goes on a wild, murderous rampage.
There are a lot of heavy-hitters in the film, including a reunion of The Americans with Keri Russell, Margo Martindale and Matthew Rhys, as well as the last performance from Ray Liotta.
Of course the real star here is the high out of its mind bear, which is based on a real bear who ate 40 pounds worth of cocaine that was tossed out of a plane. Major difference in plot though – that bear did not go on a geeked up murderous rampage, it just died. (The body of the "cocaine bear" was eventually acquired by Kentucky-based gift shop brand Kentucky For Kentucky, per the AV Club).
The other star of the trailer? The comical use of Melle Mel's "White Lines (Don't Do It)" which is played prominently throughout the bear's two-minute romp. The 1983 song peaked at #47 on Billboard's Hot Black Single's chart and in a display of international love, spent 17 weeks in the top 40 in the UK (Duran Duran also covered it in 1995).
