Chi Town MC, Lupe Fiasco, dropped new music today with 100 Chicagos – a clever bit of word play about his hometown over a drum-less soul loop. “There is no hook here either, and it appears that Lupe dropped this one for the listeners, even giving a nod to Chi’s Virgil Abloh.

Lupe passionately spits: “Generatin’ Zen wit’ some nice sword practice/rest in peace Virg LV is vice lords backwards/a simple flip of the monogram/it ain’t shit I had similes on my sonogram.”

Perhaps Lupe is preparing to bless us, his last full length offering was 2018’s Drogas Wave, even though he dropped freestyles all throughout 2021. Earlier this month (January 7) he dropped “Select Players,” a freestyle where he rhymed over the instrumental from Sega’s 1992 video game, Streets of Rage 2.

Though he isn’t always properly credited, Lupe is an important element of Chicago’s success in Hip-Hop. Even though he was already on the scene via mixtapes, his “break” came in 2005 in the form of a feature on Kanye West’s sophomore album Late Registration. “Touch the Sky” was a Gold selling single and top 10 Billboard Rap hit which set Lupe up perfectly for his 2006 hit – the skate board anthem “Kick, Push” from his debut critically acclaimed album “Food & Liquor.”
