KRS-ONE Enlists Slick Rick and Big Daddy Kane for Hip-Hop Union Promo Video

On Tuesday (7/26) KRS-ONE posted a video to his IG explaining the purpose and mission of Hip-Hop's first union, The Hip Hop Alliance.

The one-and-a-half-minute video features KRS spitting a rhyme about the mission of the organization with appearances from Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick.

"Shout out to those who work behind the scenes to make Hip Hop Happen! Managers, Artists, Agents, Engineers and Producers ... what is the retirement plan, healthcare plan, and fair commission standards for us?" KRS-One captioned the post. "What is a fair [SIC] wage for what we do within "Hip-Hop" as an industry?"

He went on to point out that everyone who works in Hip-Hop — from drivers to promoters, should be included.

"Those that drive and assist artists, those that protect artists, those that promote the show, and those that sell merchandise, among other roles and responsibilities that make hip hop happen; Who speaks for us?" he questioned. "What brings dignity and respect to the work that we do? Answer. The Hip Hop Alliance! With the knowledge, the skill, and the power of our collective voice, there is no reason why we cannot protect ourselves and our future! Find out more @thehiphopalliance."

The Hip-Hop Alliance was founded by Chuck D who serves as president and was co-founded by vice president Kurtis Blow. KRS-ONE serves as chairman of the board of directors and Doug E. Fresh is a board member as well. Slick Rick, DJ Hollywood, DJ Scratch and Davy DMX are members of the advisory board, along with many other legendary figures in Hip-Hop.

"Chuck D and I have been working on this Hip-Hop Alliance since 2007, and we finally got it done," Kurtis Blow told HipHopDX. "Hip-Hop culture is the hottest scene in society today. Everyone around the globe is tuning in to listen to what Hip-Hop has to say."

The Hip Hop Alliance recently partnered with SAG-AFTRA to educate and empower artists with information to support them in their negotiations with labels, agents and managers.
