Killer Mike's SWAG Shop Gives Out 160 Free Hair Cuts to Kids

Killer Mike's barbershop The Swag Shop partnered with the Witherite Law Group and Atlanta radio station V-103 to give away free hair cuts and school supplies to 160 local kids in preparation of their first day of school.

“It’s a self-esteem boost. You know, feeling your best, looking your best, showing up on your first day of school, making that first impression. It just goes a long way,” Kimm White, the general manager of The Swag Shop, told CBS46.

V-103 host Big Tigger agreed.

“We try to give really big blessings to families in need,” he said in the same interview. "Amy Witherite [Witherite Law Group owner] goes above and beyond to help give back to the community that she serves. I have my good brother Killer Mike who is the owner of the SWAG shop’s two locations that we’re using. Amy is a supreme benefactor extraordinaire and I’m happy to be involved. This is the people’s station and we serve the people. It’s the right thing to do to give back and connect to the people who listen and support us.”

Always active on the Atlanta scene, Killer Mike recently appeared at an Atlanta City Council meeting on Monday (Aug. 1) to speak out against a proposed "public nuisance" ordinance he says will have a negative impact on local Black-owned businesses and nightclubs.

He said that as Atlanta continues to grow, "corporations are going to be coming into here.” He suggested the city has a choice— support large corporate dollars or locally owned businesses.

“It’s gonna be the owners of Hard Rock [Cafe] or the owners of Hooters or the owners of a W Hotel, or it’s gonna be the little people that went to Frederick Douglas [high school]… and Southwest DeKalb, and schools like that," Mike suggested. “Are we going to keep Atlanta a place where local people can grow and thrive here?”
