“Here’s something to go viral,” Consequence tells DJ EFN and N.O.R.E in the clip from the upcoming episode. “What many people don’t know is Kanye was, at one point, was supposed to join Tribe for the last album.”
Consequence then clarifies for N.O.R.E. that Ye was supposed to join the group following Phife's death. “Kanye was gonna join Tribe,” he confirmed after stunned silence. “That’s why he’s actually on the ‘Killing Season’ record.”
"Killing Season" appears on Tribe's final album, 2016's We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service. In a Complex interview, Consequence previously revealed that although the bulk of the album's sessions were recorded at Q-Tip’s studio in Jersey, exceptions were made for Elton John and Ye.
"With Kanye, obviously it was a little different," Cons said in the interview. "I flew out to L.A. to work with 'Ye on it. Me and Tip discussed it, because of me and 'Ye's history... [Tribe] was the thing we gelled on when we first met as far as me and Kanye is concerned. That's why he initially moved to New York; he wanted to work with me."
