D.J. Jazzy Jeff: "'Bel-Air' Might Be My Favorite Show Ever"

“I don’t think that I could have done a better job” says D.J. Jazzy Jeff of the Will Smith-executive produced Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air reboot, Bel-Air. Jeff sat down with HipHopDX and spoke about the series.

“I wasn’t involved in the making [of the show], but I am the host of the official Bel-Air podcast that’s coming out. Not to give any spoilers, but if someone was to take The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air in the 90’s and move it to ’22 and put a dramatic spin on it, I don’t think they could have done a better job,” said Jeff.

The series, which airs on the Peacock network and premiered on February 13th, has already been ordered for a second run. Bel-Air is the result of filmmaker Morgan Cooper uploading a trailer to YouTube of a reimagined version of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Cooper told Yahoo Finance that he had no publicist or marketing dollars. “The trailer, you know, we uploaded it. We spent no marketing dollars on it. There was no publicist, so the traction we got on it was all organic, which, I think, made it that much more impactful, that it found its way on Will's desk.”

Cooper continued: “As the story goes, apparently, he was down, you know, filming Bad Boys 3, and he ran out of his trailer, screaming, y'all see-- you know, like, y'all see this [BLEEP]? Like, he just went crazy, and you know, that meant so much to me, that Will really appreciated it.”
