Ghostface Tells Bun B He Always Writes an Extra Verse: "It's a Process"

Surprisingly, Bun B and Ghostface Killah linked and spoke for the first time ever in a Rock the Bells IG chat that turned out to be really enlightening — Ghostface revealed that he writes an additional verse for every song in case he feels like he needs to change it.

"I might send you two different verses and you choose and pick what you want," Ghostface told Bun, who was clearly surprised.

"Really?" Bun questions, after a moment's pause. "So there are versions of songs that we've heard from you, and there was a whole other verse to that track somewhere?"

"Yeah," Ghost replied. "Even with the Kendrick Lamar joint," he says, referencing "Purple Hearts," a standout track from K.Dot's latest, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. "I was like, let me just send him another one, just in case he don't like that one."

It was an interesting revelation from one of Hip-Hop's most revered lyricists, and Bun didn't miss the opportunity to clarify if Ghost writes like that when he's featured on other people's songs, or if he does it with his own work too.

"Even on your shit you do this?" Bun asks.

"Yeah," Ghost confirms again, mentioning his classic Supreme Clientele. "I'm very picky. I might hear it and take it home, then I might be like, 'Nah, I gotta take some of them bars out, it didn't catch it for me." He said sometimes he lets other people hear it and if it doesn't make them bob their head, it's a wrap, and he'll re-do it.

At the end of the day, Ghost says he's just very particular about on what he puts out there, and if it doesn't feel right, he'll keep doing it until it does. "It's a process but I gotta get it to what feels right in my soul."

Both rappers will showcase their culinary skills at the Rock the Bells Festival which will feature the first-ever Hip-Hop food court experience, the Trill Mealz Food Court, curated by rap legend Bun B. It will include a selection of food and beverage vendors from legendary Hip-Hop artists including Nas, E-40, Jadakiss and Styles P, Mia X, and Ghostface.

Tickets for the festival are available for purchase a rockthebells.com/festival. Check out a clip of Bun and Ghostface's convo above.
