Freeway is focused on building. The Philadelphia rapper has had to endure a painful 2020; his son Jihad Pridgen died in October and Freeway described the loss as "pain like I never felt." But it appears that Freeway is focusing his grief into rejuvenating his city and finding a sense of purpose.
On Monday, Nov. 9th, Freeway posted a photo on Instagram of he and President-Elect Joe Biden, making it clear that he intends on working with the new President on initiatives to help Philly and the Black community as a whole.
“We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it,” he wrote in the caption. "Where I am from everyone’s main focus is to get to the dead presidents. One of my main focuses moving forward is is to build with the the new President elect @joebiden & help him stand on his promise to hold our community down.”
On November 1, Freeway performed at a Biden rally in Philadelphia and the then-candidate thanked the rapper and let him know he empathizes. Biden's own son Beau Biden died in 2015 at the age of 46.
“I also want to thank Philly Freeway for being here and performing,” Biden said at the time. “I know he’s heartbroken about the loss of his son. I know the pain of burying a son and he does too now, unfortunately. It means the world to me he chose to be here because the election is that important.”
