2. The Stax Museum Of American Soul Music - Memphis Tennessee

The Stax Museum of American Soul Music features exhibits and memorabilia, highlighting legendary artists from the seminal Soul music label.

Issac Hayes, Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, The Bar-Kays, and Carla Thomas are amongst the artists featured at the Memphis museum. Check out the HBO Max documentary, Stax: Soulsville USA, then head out to the museum.

3. The National Hip-Hop Museum - Washington D.C.

The National Hip-Hop Museum, located in Washington D.C. is known for its historic inductions, which include artists spanning several eras such as The Sugar Hill Gang, Roxanne Shante, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and Go-Go legends Trouble Funk.

Located at its temporary location across the street from the entrance to Howard University, the museum features a collection of RIAA plaques, artist worn clothing, boom boxes and more. Check them out here.

4. The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture - Washington, D.C.

D.C.'s National Museum of African American History & Culture contains 10 floors of interactive exhibits and is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive cultural destination devoted exclusively to exploring, documenting, and showcasing the African American experience, according to their website.

The museum was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, and features many exhibits exploring African American history, including several genres of Black music.

5. The National Museum Of African American Music - Nashville, Tennessee

According to their website, "NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the many music genres created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans.

The museum’s expertly-curated collections share the story of the American soundtrack by integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present."

The National Museum of African American Music broke ground in early 2017 and officially opened in 2021. Since its opening, NMAAM has welcomed guests from across the U.S. and is one of Music City's top a must-see tourist destination.
