As he listens to Freddy Mitchell, he drops a few jewels concerning digging for samples.
"A lotta cats don't know, but when you're diggin' in the store lookin' for records, the cover can be interesting," he explained. "Sometimes that can give you a little introspective of what the album is gonna be like, but more so the personnel and who is playing on the album."
Mo Bee samples his selections into the Rossum SP1200 and gives props to Dave Rossum at Rossum Electro for the newly updated version of the legendary sampler and sequencer. After finding nothing usable on the Freddie Mitchell album (and snatching drums from The Marvelettes), Mo Bee creates a boom-bap beat using the Herbie Mann album. Watching Easy Mo Bee work is a master class in sample based production.
