Bun B and E-40 connected on an Instagram Live set up by Rock the Bells, where the two legendary rappers cemented their mutual respect and love for each other over the course of a delightful conversation.
"Earl, I've known you for at least 28 years now," Bun says at the beginning of the convo. E-40 confirms that it has been almost 30 years since the two first connected in 1992, before admitting he misses Pimp C.
Bun is curating the first-ever Hip-Hop food court, the Trill Mealz Food Court, at the Rock the Bells Festival in August and asked E-40 to come through with his popular Goon With the Spoon sausages and ice cream. 40 says the ice cream will be sold by the pint so "you can just get a spoon and walk with your ice cream and have a delightful treat."
"You've never been a little dude," Bun says. "Whose job was it to feed everyone when you were growing up?"
"My moms," 40 replies, adding that he had to learn to cook because he's the oldest of four (his brother D-Shot and Suga-T are also rappers and members of The Click). "When I was a young mustache, and all the way up to high school and the 80s, I was a dude with a six-pack but I always loved to eat."
40 says he realized he was good enough to cook for other people when he started liking his own meals. "I feel like my taste buds are the best judgment," he says, adding that when he was younger, he also worked at a high-class restaurant where he cooked chicken cordon bleu, and more.
40, who also had his own wine and spirits company, Earl Stevens Collection (he points out that Napa Valley is in the same area code as his hometown of Vallejo so the connection was natural) says his interest in beverages made his foray into food much easier.
"I put it togehter like the weather," he says of his wine and spirits, adding that his new Tycoon Vodka will drop in the next month or so. "Next thing you know it was everywhere like air."
