Showtime Announces 'We Need to Talk About Cosby' Docuseries From W. Kamau Bell

Comedian and filmmaker W. Kamau Bell’s four-part docuseries We Need To Talk About Cosby was one of the most high-profile titles announced for the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.

Showtime has announced that the docuseries, directed by the United Shades of America star, will premiere on their platform on January 30, a week after its debut at the Sundance film festival on January 22. Showtime shared their official trailer for the series promoting the show.

The documentary offers an in-depth look at the revolutionary career of Cosby and his overall cultural impact until his descent due to his sexual assault allegations and conviction.

In the trailer for the docuseries, Bell says, “I am a child of Bill Cosby. You know what I mean. I’m a Black man, a stand-up comic, born in the Seventies — Bill Cosby had been one of my heroes.” But alluding to the more than 60 women who’ve accused Cosby of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, and sexual battery, Bell continues: “This was fucked up.”

“As a child of Bill Cosby, I was a huge fan of all his shows and wanted to be a comedian because of him,” Bell said in a statement. “I never thought I’d ever wrestle with who we all thought Cosby was and who we now understand him to be. I’m not sure he would want me to do this work, but Cliff Huxtable definitely would.”

We Need To Talk About Cosby will premiere on Showtime on January 30 at 10 p.m. ET.
